Servicemen of the Russian Center for Reconciliation of the Warring Parties have escorted 71 UN humanitarian convoys in Syria since the start of 2018, the Center’s head, Maj. Gen. Alexei Tsygankov, announced on August 19.
“In the period from December 21, 2017 to August 17, 2018, the center ensured safe passage of 71 UN humanitarian convoys,” he said adding that the Center also ensured safety of 27 missions from international relief organizations, including the Red Cross, the Syrian Arab Red Crescent and UNICEF.
According to Maj. Gen. Tsygankov, the international relief organizations bought more than 6,000 tonnes of food and basic necessities to Syrian citizens.
He also pointed out that the Armenian government has sent 30 tonnes of food to Syrians as well as the French president has ordered in the framework of agreements reached with his Russian counterpart the delivery of 44 tonnes of medicines, tents and warm blaknets.
