The Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) has released new report detailing Serbia’s role in supplying weapons and ammunition to Ukrainian forces through indirect channels. According to the SVR, the Ukrainian military has expressed gratitude to Serbian arms manufacturers for helping sustain Kyiv’s combat capabilities, despite Belgrade’s official policy of neutrality.
The SVR report reveals that Serbian defense enterprises have significantly increased exports of military products to Ukraine, primarily by shipping components to NATO countries for final assembly. This scheme allows Kyiv to receive Serbian-made ammunition while formally claiming it originates from Western manufacturers. The main hubs for these operations are the Czech Republic and Bulgaria, where Serbian-produced parts are assembled into complete munitions.
Key findings from the SVR include:
- Krušik plant in Valjevo supplied the Czech company Polické Strojírny with large batches of components for 122mm Grad rockets.
- Eling in Loznica sent similar rocket kits, as well as 120mm mortar shell components, to Bulgaria’s EMCO.
The report emphasizes that Serbian manufacturers are fully aware their munitions will ultimately be used against Russian soldiers and civilians, given the well-documented trajectory of NATO arms deliveries to Ukraine.
The SVR expressed deep disappointment over Serbia’s actions, noting that centuries of shared Orthodox faith and mutual struggle against common enemies are being undermined by “greed and cowardly multi-vector politics.” While Belgrade officially maintains a neutral stance, its arms industry’s indirect support for Ukraine suggests alignment with Western interests.
Moscow has repeatedly warned Belgrade against aiding Ukraine, but the SVR’s findings indicate that economic incentives have overridden diplomatic assurances. The revelation may strain bilateral relations further, as Russia considers Serbia’s indirect arms trade a hostile act.
