The Russian military’s Zapad [West] Group of Forces will fully liberate Kupyansk in Kharkiv within a week, one of the commanders leading operations inside the key city announced on November 6.
“My unit is carrying out the task of clearing and liberating Kupyansk. Over the past day, we have liberated 25 buildings in the city. In its western part, my soldiers advanced along three streets, liberating 16 buildings. Nine houses were liberated on Pervaya Zapadnaya Street, four on Levadny Vyezd Street, and three on Sinkovskaya Street. Our neighbors are also doing well; they have liberated another nine buildings at a feed mill. We continue to advance on the right bank; there are still about 130 buildings left,” the commander of the assault unit of the 121st Regiment of the 68th Motorized Rifle Division, with the call sign “Lavrik,” said in a video released by the Russian Ministry of Defense.
“I am confident that the city will be completely liberated within the next week. Our morale is high, and we will accomplish our mission,” he added.
In addition to the gains announced by the commander, the Russian MoD revealed in its daily briefing that several Ukrainian counterattacks were foiled near Kupyansk over the past 24 hours.
Three attacks by the 144th Mechanised Brigade, the 92nd Assault Brigade, and the 15th National Guard Brigade of Kiev forces were repelled near Nechvolodovka and Blagodatovka, according to the ministry.
Another attempt by the 116th Mechanised Brigade to break out of the encirclement in a western direction of Kupyansk was also thwarted by the Zapad Group of Forces.
Additionally, the ministry said that a breakthrough by a Ukrainian assault group to the destroyed Oskol River crossing for its restoration was thwarted close to Petropavlivka.
“Over the past 24 hours, up to 50 servicemen, one TMM-3 heavy mechanized bridge, 12 motor vehicles, and four electronic warfare stations have been neutralized close to Kupyansk,” the ministry added.
The Zapad Group of Forces also made gains to the northeast of Kupyansk, moving closer to Kucherivka and Petropavlivka.

Just two days earlier Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky claimed that only 60 Russian troops remained in Kupyansk and that his forces were working to push them out from the city. The Russian MoD responded in a statement saying that Zelensky completely lost connection with reality.
Ukraine is clearly heading towards a defeat in Kupyansk. All defenses to the east and south of the city will likely collapse once the Russian military takes over. Kiev forces are already facing serious problems with logistics as a result of Russian drone units. Kiev’s decision to keep fighting there is nothing short of catastrophic.
