Russian forces have launched a series of precise strikes across Ukraine, focusing on critical military logistics and infrastructure deep behind the front lines. The attacks, which occurred on the night of September the 2nd and continued into the morning, mark a significant escalation in the campaign to degrade Ukraine’s supply chain and war-fighting capabilities.
Compared to the recent devastating attacks, the scale of the night strikes was quite small but Ukrainian air defense failed to repel them. According to the Air Force of Ukraine, in total, 150 UAVs of various types targeted Ukraine during the night. 120 of them were allegedly destroyed or intercepted. However, massive drone strikes continued in the morning hours.

The most consequential strike targeted the strategic port of Izmail in the southern Odessa region. This Danube River port has been a vital lifeline for Ukraine, handling a significant portion of its grain and metal exports and, more critically, serving as a key node for “grey imports” of Western military supplies. Russian Geran-type drones struck the ship repair plant, fuel and energy infrastructure, diesel pumping lines, and a container storage area, igniting massive fires in the area. Reports indicate at least four vessels, including the tanker Volgoneft-25, were damaged or destroyed. The attack effectively paralyzes the port’s operations, severing a primary route for thousands of tons of diesel fuel—including aviation grades crucial for armored units and drones—and will take weeks to partially repair.
In a notable shift in tactics, a separate drone raid struck the capital, Kyiv, in broad daylight. A group of 15 to 30 loitering munitions targeted the city. One confirmed target was an industrial complex in Bila Tserkva, officially a metalworking plant but allegedly repurposed for military production, including FPV drone casings and armored vehicle parts. The strike completely destroyed a main hangar and set a warehouse ablaze, destroying tons of cable products for energy systems.

Other overnight strikes demonstrated a pattern of high-precision targeting. Russian military monitoring sources confirmed the following damage.
In Novogrishino in the DPR, Russian drones hit positions of the Ukrainian 38th Marine Brigade, destroying a command post, a diesel power station, and a mobile communications vehicle. In Belitskoye, DPR, a deployment point for the Ukrainian National Guard was struck, eliminating a radio-equipped truck and a warehouse storing drone batteries and tactical antennas.
In the city of Sumy, a restaurant being used as a temporary base for the 95th Air Assault Brigade was destroyed. Reports indicate at least 12 personnel were killed, including two military counterintelligence officers, and 11 were wounded.

In the town of Oskol in Kharkiv region, a temporary base for the 63rd Mechanized Brigade was hit, destroying two hangars containing vehicles, small arms, and artillery ammunition. Secondary explosions were reported.
These coordinated operations indicate a strategic evolution in Russia’s campaign. The strike on Izmail moves beyond hitting isolated warehouses to dismantling the very architecture of Ukraine’s supply network. The daytime raid on Kyiv suggests a new tactic aimed at overwhelming air defenses and maximizing psychological impact.
