The first night of 2024 was marked by new wave of massive Russian strikes throughout Ukraine. As a result of the attack, various targets were destroyed in the Kiev, Odessa, Lviv and Zaporozhye regions. While the Ukrainian military was shelling civilians in the Donetsk urban agglomeration, Russian drones continued destruction of the Ukrainian military-industrial infrastructure and hit some symbolically important targets. Ukrainian officials did not report on civilian casualties.
The Ukrainian military claimed that in total allegedly 26 Russian drones were launched on the night of January 1, 2024, “of which 21 were shot down.” Over the past days, they claimed that “96 UAVs were released, of which 66 were shot down.” Ukrainian officials surprisingly acknowledged that only 60% of the targets were shot down by the almighty Ukrainian air defense forces, which is the lowest figure in recent months, even according to Ukrainian official statistics. However, evidence from different Ukrainian regions reveal the lies of the Kiev regime and confirm that much more targets were hit.
The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that ‘on December 31, 2023, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation struck the infrastructure of Ukrainian military airfields with high-precision long-range air-based missiles.’ The targeted facilities are used by the Ukrainian military to deploy the aircraft that area carrying the Storm Shadow cruise missiles.
‘The target of the strike has been hit’, the Russian military summed up the results of the attack.
Over the past night, more Russian strikes were reported in the Odessa region. The targets there included military depots, as well as facilities used for the deployment of military personnel. At least two strikes were reported in the area of the local port used by the Ukrainian military for military logistics and transfer of weapons.
More targets were hit in the city of Dnepropetrovsk. The local authorities confirmed that a fire broke out at one of the enterprises, which reportedly began after a series of explosions. The Ukrainian authorities are always declaring some damage to some industrial facilities in an attempt to hide strikes on the military infrastructure. According to local reports, the workshops of a factory used for the production of drones and repair of military equipment were hit. The facility was hit by Russian UAVs. The head of the region claimed that five Russian drones were intercepted in the Dnipro, Sinelnikovsky, Novomoskovskiy and Kamensk districts.
At night, Russian UAVs passed through the entire country and reached their targets in the western Lviv region. According to preliminary reports, the areas of accumulation of the Ukrainian military personnel were hit.
Among the targets there were the building of the Shukhevych Museum and the Lviv Polytechnic University, “where Stepan Bandera studied”. Shukhevich and Bandera were the accomplices of the Nazis during World War II, ideologists of Ukrainian radical nationalism and they are still recognized as Nazi criminals in a number of countries. Today, they are the modern heroes of Ukraine.
There is no exact data whether these facilities were the real targets of the Russian strikes or debris fell on them after the drones were intercepted by the air defense of Ukraine. The building could also be hit by Ukrainian forces in an attempt to gain some hype. Meanwhile, Ukrainian authorities and the local media are complaining about the attack ‘on the (fake) Ukrainian identity’, hiding the military losses they suffered last night.
