The overall ratio of attacking fixed-wing UAVs between Russian and Ukrainian forces last night favored Ukraine, with 80 Ukrainian UAVs shot down over Russia (plus 44 UAVs during the day) compared to 58 Geran/Herber UAVs and 1 Iskander-M missile (targeting Dnipropetrovsk region) launched at Ukraine.
While Kyiv is focused on massive strikes on border areas and sabotage on railway lines, Russian forces during this period are concentrating on precision strikes against military targets—primarily temporary deployment points (TDPs) of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) and positions of drone operators.
Strikes on Ukraine
Yesterday, during the day and night, Russian Aerospace Forces and missile troops struck targets in Donbas, as well as in Sumy, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Dnipropetrovsk, Odesa, Mykolaiv, Chernihiv, and Poltava regions. Ukrainian air forces claimed to have shot down or suppressed 52 drones.
Russian troops paid particular attention to destroying AFU temporary deployment points (TDPs):
-
In the settlement of Borova, Kharkiv Region, a TDP was destroyed by a guided aerial bomb (UMPK).
-
A TDP was also hit in Bytytsia, Sumy Region.
-
In Druzhkivka (DPR), a FAB bomb with a guidance module (UMPK) struck AFU positions.
-
In the Dronivka area, a TDP of the 81st Separate Airmobile Brigade of the AFU was destroyed using a ‘Tornado-S’ MLRS by the ‘South’ group.
-
In Myrnograd, Russian Aerospace Forces, using four FAB-500 bombs with UMPK, destroyed a TDP of the 79th Separate Air Assault Brigade of the AFU.
-
In Vovchansk, a Kh-38ML missile hit a TDP of the 57th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade of the AFU.
-
In the Berestok area, a precise strike by a 2A65 ‘Msta-B’ 152mm howitzer destroyed a TDP used to shelter Ukrainian servicemen and coordinate their actions.
Additionally, reports indicate an explosion at an oil depot in Kyiv Region and an explosion at an AFU airbase in Vasylkiv, where a warehouse containing aviation ammunition and fuel was allegedly located. Ukrainian media also confirmed the detonation of ammunition in a freight train in Kyiv Region. Personnel were not injured, but rail traffic was temporarily suspended. The sabotage theory is being investigated, but so far there is no confirmed evidence that Russian forces are responsible for these incidents.
Strikes on Russia
Over the night and morning, 85 Ukrainian UAVs were shot down in various regions of Russia. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the majority of drones were destroyed over Bryansk Region (30), as well as over the Republic of Crimea (15), Smolensk Region (12), Kaluga Region (10), Novgorod Region (5), Kursk Region and the Sea of Azov (3 each), Leningrad and Ryazan Regions (2 each), and Oryol, Rostov, and Nizhny Novgorod Regions (1 each). Another 18 UAVs were shot down in other Russian regions.
Particularly serious incidents occurred in Leningrad Region, where the Kirishi oil refinery was targeted. Air defense systems shot down three drones, but their debris fell on the plant’s territory, causing a fire that was quickly extinguished.
Also in Leningrad Region, two railway incidents occurred: in the Gatchinsky District, a lone diesel locomotive derailed, killing the engineer, and in the Luzhsky District, a diesel locomotive with 15 empty tank cars derailed. Rail traffic was temporarily disrupted, and law enforcement is investigating the possibility of sabotage.
In Oryol Region, an explosive device was discovered on the railway tracks; three Rosgvardia servicemen were killed during its disposal. Ukrainian media, citing sources in special services, report that yesterday’s and today’s explosions on railway tracks in Russia were organized by Ukraine’s Main Directorate of Intelligence (GUR) and Special Operations Forces (SSO). According to their information, mines were planted on the Kursk-Oryol line, leading to the deaths of Rosgvardia servicemen during demining.
In Perm Krai, drones allegedly attacked a workshop of the ‘Metafrax’ plant—a major producer of ammonia, urea, and methanol—though there is no official confirmation of this incident.
Belgorod Region remains the most affected area, suffering drone attacks for the fourth consecutive day. Over 250 UAVs targeted energy facilities, residential buildings, and social infrastructure. Two people were killed, 28 injured; 106 houses and 122 vehicles were damaged. Evacuation of children to sanatoriums in other Russian regions is underway.
Amid the ongoing conflict, Ukraine continues massive attacks on Russian border regions, including sabotage on railway lines. To counter Russia’s growing military expenditures, Kyiv estimates its funding needs for 2026 at $120 billion and insists on doubling its defense budget. These steps underscore the seriousness and protracted nature of the conflict and indicate Kyiv’s unwillingness to engage in peace talks in the near future.
