Russian Warplanes Hit Militants’ Positions In Syria’s Lattakia

Support SouthFront

On September 9, warplanes of the Russian Aerospace Forces carried out a series of airstrikes on Lattakia’s northern countryside.

According to the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the airstrikes targeted militants’ positions in the vicinity of the town of Kabani in the Kurd Mountain area. No losses were reported.

The Russian airstrikes on northern Lattakia were likely a response to the militants’ repeated violations of the ceasefire agreement on Greater Idlib signed on March 5.

The militants, including those allied with Turkey, intensified their attacks on Syrian government troops in Greater Idlib in the last few weeks. Turkish forces in the region are not taking measures to stop the militants’ attacks.

Under the March 5 agreement with Russia, Turkey committed to neutralize the remaining militants in Greater Idlib and reopen the M4 highway.

Ankara’s failure to honor its commitments may force the Syrian military and its allies to act on their own and resume ground operations in Greater Idlib.
