Russian firearms manufacturer Lobaev Arms announced on April 15 that it had developed a new robotic sniper system dubbed “Dvoynik”.

In a statement, the company said that the system is not just remotely controlled, but also highly-automated, with artificial intelligence handling the majority of calculations and functions.

The Dvoynik can be deployed statically on its own or mounted on robotic platforms, such as the Kuryer NRTK, which is already being used by the Russian military in the special operation zone. For this purpose, the system features an electric bolt and trigger drive, ensuring quick reload, with the operator in control of the rate of fire.

The system demonstrated exceptional accuracy during testing, down to 0,2 Minute of Angle (MOA), according to the company.

MOA is an angular measurement used in shooting to measure precision, equivalent to 1/60th of a degree. In practical terms, 1 MOA is roughly equal to 2.91 centimeters at 100 meters.

Lobaev Arms noted that Dvoynik is available in a variety of calibers: 5,56×45mm, 7,62×51mm, 6,5 Creedmoor, and 6,5×47 Lapua.

A quasi-hypersonic cartridge with a muzzle velocity of 1530 meters per second, specifically developed for this system, particularly for use against drones, has also successfully passed testing, according to the company.

Russian troops have been using sniper rifles to take down drones, specifically larger multi-roter drones used to drop bombs known as “Baba Yaga”, with much success. The Dvoynik will likely be very effective in this role, especially with the new cartridge.

According to Lobaev Arms, Dvoynik has already entered serial production. This means that the system may be already in the special operation zone.
