The Saudi-led coalition announced on March 7 that it had carried out a “special operation” against key targets of the Houthis in the western Yemeni province of al-Hudaydah.

“The Coalition’s Joint Forces Command carried out at 00:30 am on Sunday a special operation in the district of Salif against military targets affiliated with the Houthi militia threatening regional and international security,” Col. Turki al-Maliki, a spokesman for the coalition, said in an official statement.

According to the spokesman, the operation, that was carried out by coalition warplane, targeted six facilities where the Houthis assembled or launched water-born improvised explosive devices (WBIEDs) and naval mines.

Col. al-Maliki stressed that the coalition will continue to attack such targets “in line with international humanitarian law and its customary rules.”

The pro-Houthi al-Masirah TV confirmed that Saudi-led coalition warplanes targeted Salif with at least two airstrikes on March 7 morning. No losses were reported, however.

The Saudi-led coalition’s attack is a violation of the U.N.-sponsored ceasefire in al-Hudaydah. The coalition claims that the Houthis are also violating the ceasefire by launching missile, drones and WBIEDs from the coastal province.
