Overnight on June 19-20, Russian forces launched another wave of strikes across Ukraine. Compared to the previous attacks, today’s strikes were less intense but resulted in heavy damage to Ukrainian military infrastructure.
According to the Air Force of Ukraine, the Russian military deployed at least 86 attack drones, including Geran-type UAVs and decoy models, from multiple directions—Millerovo, Kursk, Orel, Bryansk, Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia, and Crimea. Ukrainian air defenses, including missile troops, electronic warfare units, and mobile fire groups, allegedly intercepted 70 drones, with 34 shot down and 36 suppressed by electronic countermeasures. Despite these efforts, eight direct impacts and 11 cases of falling debris were officially recorded, causing damage in northern, eastern, and southern regions. According to local footage and various monitoring sources, the Ukrainian military suffered much heavier damage.
Odessa bore the brunt of the strikes, with Russian forces employing Geran kamikaze drones and precision missiles like the Kh-59 and Kh-31. At least 10 hits were reported by the locals, including multiple strikes on the Stalkanat factory and its underground tunnels, used by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Other targets included the Food Academy, Law Academy, railway infrastructure, gas facilities, and ammunition depots. Local sources accused Ukrainian air defense of misfires, with intercepted drones crashing into residential areas. Video evidence showed civilians confirming a downed Geran caused an apartment building burning, contradicting official claims of deliberate Russian targeting of civilians.
Additional strikes hit a resort near Zatoka. Such facilities are used to host Ukrainian military training centers with British instructors. While results remain unconfirmed, the attack reportedly involved Geran drones.
The eastern city of Kharkiv came under at least two massive waves of attacks, with eight drone strikes recorded in the Shevchenkivskyi and Osnovyanskyi districts alone. Fires erupted in three industrial warehouses, a partially constructed building, and auxiliary structures, with secondary detonations reported. A Ukrainian command post was destroyed, and emergency crews came to contain large-scale blazes. The local regional governor acknowledged “powerful explosions,” while Mayor of Kharkiv noted the city’s air defenses were overwhelmed.
On the other side, Ukraine targeted Russian territory with 61 drones overnight. No damage was reported deep in the Russian rear, with all UAVS destroyed in nine regions. Russian officials reported no major damage but acknowledged ongoing threats to energy and transport infrastructure.
The attacks underscore Russia’s focus on degrading Ukraine’s defense-industrial capacity and morale amid the ongoing summer offensives. The night strikes reveal a relentless Russian push to paralyze critical infrastructure, while Ukrainian forces scramble to mitigate losses and retaliate across the border.
