The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) artillery destroyed several headquarters of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) in the towns of Maar Shamarin, Jarjnaz and Hass in the southern Idlib countryside on March 14, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).

“Many terrorists were killed and injured, their headquarters, weapons and ammunition were also destroyed,” the SANA’s reporter said.

In the last few weeks, the Syrian Artillery Force began to use heavy rocket launchers such as the BM-30 Smerch and the BM-27 Uragan. Presidion-guided artillery shells are also being used by Russian forces.

According to the SANA, the attack on the headquarters was a response to the recent violations of the Russian-Turkish demilitarized zone agreement. HTS and its allies, like Jaysh al-Izza and the Turkistan Islamic Party (TIP), are violating the agreement on a daily basis.

A day earlier, a wave of Russian airstrikes destroyed several ammo depots of HTS inside the city of Idlib and in its outskirt. The Ministry of Defense of Russia said that the airstrikes prevented the terrorist group from launching a drone attack on Hmeimim airbase.

HTS’ hostile behavior and its unwillingness to respect the demilitarized zone agreement could eventually force the SAA and its allies to launch a military operation inside Idlib.
