On November 8, a source in the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) told SouthFront that the army and its allies advanced more than 500 meters deep inside the heavily fortified area of al-Safa after heavy clashes with ISIS fighters.
Syrian pro-government sources said that heavy rocket launchers of the SAA’s 4th Division had played a key role in the attack by shelling the terrorist group fortifications in al-Safa. The 4th Division was deployed around the ISIS-held area a day earlier.
From its side, the ISIS-lined news agency, Amaq, claimed that the terrorists killed five Syrian soldiers during the clashes in al-Safa. However, pro-government activists said that only two officers of the SAA were killed.
Earlier, the SAA managed to free all the remaining al-Suwayda hostages from the hands of ISIS during a successful special operation in the eastern Homs countryside. This allowed the army and its allies to step up their military operation in al-Safa, as the area has become free of civilians.
