On October 31, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) foiled a new infiltration attempt by militants in the northern Hama countryside, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).

In details, a group of militants advanced towards several positions of the SAA around the key town of Atshan in order to launch attacks. However, the SAA detected the group and targeted it with heavy weapons.

“The [SAA] strikes foiled the infiltration after killing and injuring several terrorists, while the rest run away to their positions,” the SANA’s reporter in Hama said.

This infiltration attempt is a clear violation of the Russian-Turkish deconfliction agreement on the governorate of Idlib. Under the agreement, a demilitarized zone should be established around Idlib. The zone covers the opposition-held areas in northern Hama.

The militants in northern Hama violated the deconfliction agreement many times in the last two weeks by shelling SAA positions in the region. However, this is the first time they attempted to carry out a ground assault.
