On August 4, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) repelled an attack of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and its allies from the Free Syrian Army (FSA) on its positions in the area of Zilaqiat in the northern Hama countryside, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).
The SANA’s reporter in Hama said that several fighters of HTS and its allies were killed during the clashes in the northern Hama countryside. One of the casualties was identified as “Khir al-Din al-Rahmun,” a fighter of the US-backed Jaysh al-Izza.
Later, the SAA’s artillery shelled several positions of HTS and the FSA in the towns of al-Lataminah, Kafr Zita, Maarkaba and al-Sayyad in the northern Hama countryside. According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), the SAA launched more than 118 shells and rockets on these towns.
These attacks are a violation of the de-escalation agreement in the governorate of Hama. The Russian Aerospace Forces is expected to conduct a series of airstrikes on militants’ positions in northern Syria in response to these violations in the upcoming hours.
