The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) launched a barrage of heavy Golan improvised rocket-assisted munitions (IRAMs) at terrorists’ positions and fortifications in the northern Lattakia countryside on May 5, according to pro-government sources.
Despite the escalation in northern Hama and southern Idlib, the situation in northern Lattakia remained largely calm until today. The region is known for being a stronghold for several terrorist groups, including the al-Qaeda-affiliated Turkistan Islamic Party (TIP) and Ajnad al-Kavkaz (AK).
Golan IRAMs are locally made by the 4th Division. In the last two years, a variety of Golan models were observed in the Syrian battlefield. All of theses models are known to be armed with a heavy High Explosives (HE) or fuel air explosives (FAE) warhead.
The situation in northern Lattakia could escalate in the upcoming few days. The Russian Aerospace Forces and the Syrian Arab Air Force (SyAAF) could expand their aerial operations to cover the region.
