Supposed members of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) raided home and beat a Syrian opposition activist, Reem Alnasser, Raqqah, Syria.tv reported on February 15.
According to reports, the SDF members also stole mobile phones and valuables from her home. The alleged reason of the attakc is that Alnasser has an anti-SDF stance and has repeatedly criticized SDF policies in the captured areas.
In own turn, pro-SDF sources claim that all these reports are untrue. However, they provide no comprehensive explanation what happened. Alnasser has a clear anti-government position. So, it’s hard to suppose that she was attacked because she is a member of “pro-Assad resistance” within the SDF-held area.
The SDF, which is in fact controlled by the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) and their political wing, the Democratic Union Party (PYD), faces signficiant problems with keeping the Arab-populated areas under its control. The key reason is that the local poplation barely supports the separatist intentions of the Kurdish leadership, ideas of the Kurdish nationalism and the US occupation of Syria.
Over the past week, a series of anti-US and anti-SDF protests has been held across the SDF-held parts of Raqqah and Deir Ezzor provinces. The protesters were burning US and French flags, demanding the end of foreign occupation and reconciliation with the Damascus government.
In the same period, the SDF detained at least 63 persons in the city of Raqqah. Pro-SDF sources that they were terrorists providing no details. Some local sources say that the detained persons were pro-government activists.
