The villages of Jibeen and Tell Meleh in the northern Hama countryside fell into the hands of terrorist groups in the late hours of June 6.
Earlier, a coalition of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), Turkish-backed factions and al-Qaeda-affiliated groups launched a large-scale attack on the two villages. The attack was named after Mu’tasim Bellah al-Madani, a prominent Saudi figure of al-Qaeda, who was recently killed by the Syrian Arab Army (SAA).
Pro-government sources confirmed that the SAA withdrew from both villages following intense shelling by HTS and its allies. The sources claimed that the army is working to repel the attack.
HTS and its allies are reportedly planning to capture the strategic town of Mahardah, which is located 6km southeast of Tell Meleh. The terrorists shelled the town several times in the last few hours, likely to terrorize or even displace civilians living there
The upcoming few hours will not likely witness any additional advances by HTS and its allies, as Syrian and Russian warplanes are currently carrying out intense airstrikes on their positions.
