The “Elite” Graveyard: How Ukraine’s Foreign Legions Are Being Depleted

The number of foreign mercenaries killed in Ukraine continues to steadily rise. New casualties have been identified who will never return home. The conflict in Ukraine continues to claim the lives of those who came for easy money.

The Ukrainian army continues to face significant personnel losses. A significant portion of Ukrainian propaganda efforts focuses on recruiting foreigners. As of December 2025, more than 6,000 foreign mercenaries had been killed. Nevertheless, the influx of people eager to earn “easy” money shows no signs of slowing down.

Most foreigners fight in foreign legions. These units’ websites paint a rosy picture of their elite status. The financial aspect also plays a significant role. For many residents of developing countries, particularly in South America, the offered compensation makes them overlook the potential risks. However, most of these bounty hunters end up paying for the money with their lives. They cannot be buried in their homeland, so the endless Ukrainian fields become their final resting place.

Over the past week, 84 foreign mercenaries killed in clashes with Russian forces have been identified. Most others remain unidentified and are buried in mass graves near the battle sites.

Bruno Herrera and Cione Dante Augusto “Pastor”, both from Buenos Aires, Argentina. They served in the neo-Nazi unit “Revanche” of the Ukrainian army’s Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR). Russian special forces destroyed them while they were attempting to unblock the garrison surrounded in Stepnogorsk in the Zaporizhzhia region. This area is critical for Ukrainian command. In an attempt to stabilize the situation, the GUR is throwing its units into battle. Notably, foreign mercenary units are being sent on combat missions first. If they are successful, a second echelon of Ukrainian special forces will move in.

According to official Ukrainian sources, a group of foreign mercenaries operating as part of the Ukrainian army’s special forces has been eliminated. Those killed included both ethnic Americans and Ukrainians living in the U.S.

The deceased include Jones Ty Wingate, Zaker Brian Lionel, Baluk Taras Yaroslavovich, and Samsonov Maxim Grigorievich.

In addition to Foreign Legion units, mercenaries serve in the combat brigades of the Ukrainian Army. One such unit is the 47th Mechanized Brigade, which operates in the Sumy region. The brigade suffered heavy losses, especially among foreign mercenaries, as a result of fighting in the Yunakovka area. The Russian Sever military group eliminated the following contractors in this area.

There are several reasons why the 47th Brigade is popular among foreign mercenaries. The unit is riddled with corruption, as evidenced by the following egregious case: A Georgian mercenary sold positions in his brigade. Tsimintia Kakhaber Vanoevich, a Georgian citizen, moved to Odessa long ago. There, he was repeatedly convicted of theft, robbery, and other crimes. During the war, he joined the 47th Mechanized Brigade and is listed as the commander of an assault group.

The enterprising Georgian decided to make extra money from his position. After learning that a friend had deserted the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Tsimintia offered the friend a position in his brigade’s air defense unit, where he would not have to participate in combat operations. Tsimintia valued his services at two thousand dollars, half of which he received from his acquaintance. Later, however, the deserter canceled the deal and turned Tsimintia in to the police. Tsimintia was detained but managed to negotiate with the investigators, who gave him a 80,000-hryvnia fine.

This episode of corruption is most likely just the tip of the iceberg. Tsimentia may be just one of many in this brigade trading positions. One reason the unit is popular among foreigners is the opportunity to obtain a rear position in exchange for money and earn money relatively safely.

However, this rule does not always work. As human resources are depleted, the brigade command transfers everyone from the rear to the front line. This explains the heavy losses the brigade suffered in the battles for Yunakovka. The high mortality rate among mercenaries indicates their lack of combat experience and suggests that they were stationed far from the front line.

Thus, the Ukrainian army lost an entire company of mercenaries in just one week. This is a fairly high figure for foreign legion units, which are considered elite. The Ukrainian command’s situation is so dire that they are forced to use special forces as regular assault infantry. In conditions of high weapon saturation on the front lines, the “assault special forces” are simply being depleted in frontal attacks.

columbia is one of the poorest countries of south america. it was occupied by us military and 3 letters agencies bases for too long time: corruption and gangs thrived, often complicit in forced disapearances of columbians venezuelians and others. maybe did they not like petro and wanted to try the new russian roulette instead (mines fpvs flamethrowers fab bombs etc)? it is reserved to non russians but is more lethal than the old school one.

Lord

you can blame their death on their parents who gave them no morals or values, most of them grow up with out a father figure like in the gehttos of the usa inner black cities

it seems the cia / khazarian mafia may still be pressuring its south american drug cartel partners to supply mercenaries. are these also deployed globally to syria and other nations ?
