On February 6, Turkish combat drones targeted two positions of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) near the village of Arab Hassan in the northeastern countryside of Aleppo.
Arab Hassan is located to the northwest of the town of Manbij. The is town one of the SDF’s two main strongholds in the northeastern Aleppo countryside with the other being the town of Kobane.
No casualties were reported as a result of the Turkish drone strikes. The London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that the SDF’s local faction in the area, the Manbij Military Council, evacuated both positions prior to the strikes.
According to the Hawar News Agency, at least three Turkish combat drones were spotted flying over Manbij and its surroundings at the same time.
The SDF and Turkish forces have been exchanging blows in northern and northeastern Syria for the last few days. On February 5, a primitive suicide drone launched by Turkish-backed militants crashed near a town held by the SDF in the northern Aleppo countryside.
The situation in northern and northeastern Syria may escalate even further, especially that Turkey appears to be looking for excuses to launch an operation against the SDF.
