Late on July 14, militants of the National Front for Liberation (NFL), Turkey’s main proxy in the northwestern Syrian region of Greater Idlib, destroyed a battle tank of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA).

NFL militants targeted the battle tank, which was parked near the town of Kawkabeh in southern Idlib, with an anti-tank guided missile (ATGM). The missile was reportedly a US-made TOW.

The ATGM strike was a blatant violation of the ceasefire in Greater Idlib, which was border by Russia and Turkey on March 5 of last year.

The SAA responded to the strike by shelling militants’ positions in southern and eastern Idlib as well as in western Aleppo on July 15 morning. Russian-made Krasnopol 155 mm laser-guided shells were used.

The ceasefire in Greater Idlib is still holding up to some extant. Nevertheless, the situation in the region is far from being stable.

Turkish-backed militants, represented by the NFL, have been actively supporting Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, the de-facto ruler of Greater Idlib, and other al-Qaeda-affiliated factions. Ankara is doing nothing whatsoever to implement the ceasefire agreement.
