The U.S. has announced a multi-million reward for information on the three key leaders of al-Qaeda-affiliated Horas al-Din, which was designated a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT) recently.
The U.S. Department of State’s Rewards for Justice Program (RFJ) promised up to $5 million for any information on the three leaders Faruq al-Suri, Abu ‘Abd al-Karim al-Masri and Sami al-Uraydi.
“Following the Nusra Front’s claim that it split from al-Qaeda in 2016, these individuals formed a terrorist organization known as Horas al-Din (HAD), also affiliated with al- Qaeda. AI-Suri and al-Uraydi are former leaders of the Nusra Front, and al-Karim previously served as mediator for the Nusra Front. Al-Surf is the current leader of HAD, al-Uraydi is a senior sharia official for HAD, and al-Karim was a member of the Shura in 2018. If you have information on any of these individuals, please contact your nearest U.S. embassy or consulate or email rewardsforjustice.net,” the RFJ said in a poster.
Horas al-Din has around 2,000 militants currently stationed in Syria’s Greater Idlib. The terrorist group is allied to Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) [the Nusra Front’s new name] and several Turkish-backed groups.
Despite carrying out a strike on the terrorist group last June, the U.S. moved to add Horas al-Din to its terrorism list this week only.
