The United States military attacked on April 2 a highway bridge linking Iran’s capital, Tehran, to the western city of Karaj, as President Donald Trump renewed threats to the Islamic Republic.
Two separate strikes targeted the B1 bridge, cutting it in half. The semi-official Fars news agency reported that the bridge was hit while “rescue forces were assisting the victims of the first attack.” Later, a local officials said that eight people were killed and 95 others were wounded in the strikes.
A U.S. defense official told Axios that the bridge was attacked because it was used by Iranian forces to try to secretly move missiles and missile parts from Tehran to launch sites in Western Iran.
The missile parts were sent in large boxes and crates across the bridge and assembled at the launch sites, the official said, adding that the bridge was also used to send logistical support to Iranian military forces in Tehran.
While the official told the American news website that the bridge was opened in January, Iranian media reported that it was still not operational.

Trump celebrated the attack on what he called Iran’s biggest bridge, pledging that similar strikes will follow if the Islamic Republic doesn’t agree to the U.S. ceasefire proposal to end the war.
“The biggest bridge in Iran comes tumbling down, never to be used again — Much more to follow!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
“IT IS TIME FOR IRAN TO MAKE A DEAL BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE, AND THERE IS NOTHING LEFT OF WHAT STILL COULD BECOME A GREAT COUNTRY!” Trump added.
Responding, Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi wrote on X that “striking civilian structures, including unfinished bridges, will not compel Iranians to surrender.”
“It only conveys the defeat and moral collapse of an enemy in disarray. Every bridge and building will be built back stronger. What will never recover: damage to America’s standing,” he added.
In a speech the previous day, Trump said that the U.S. military will strike Iran “extremely hard” over the next two to three weeks, with talks to continue at the same time. Meanwhile, several reports that several ground operations inside the Islamic Republic were being prepared.
All in all, the U.S. attack on the B1 brigade suggests that an agreement with Iran is still very far. Coming days will likely witness more escalation, especially that the Islamic Republic is guaranteed to respond.
