UK Deploys Typhoon Fighter Jets To Qatar Amid Rising Tensions With Iran (Photos)

The United Kingdom announced on January 23 that it had deployed fighter jets in Qatar to defend the region, amid rising tensions with Iran.

In a statement, the British government said that it “noted regional tensions” as it sent the squadron of Typhoon fighter jets to Al Udeid Air Base near the Qatari capital, Doha.

The fighter jets from No 12 Squadron, a joint British-Qatari unit, will “bolster defensive capability in the region” at the invitation of the Qatari government, according to the statement.

“Qatar and the UK are close partners with historic defence ties going back decades. This partnership bolsters the national security of both our nations and supports stability in the Gulf region,” UK Defence Secretary John Healey.

“Today’s deployment builds on those shared aims as Typhoon jets from our joint squadron deploy to support its defence,” he continued.

“Coming alongside our announcement of half a billion pounds investment to upgrade our Typhoons, this deployment is further demonstration of the crucial role of these jets in reinforcing global security,” the secretary concluded.

With over 10,000 American troops, Al Udeid is one of the United States Central Command’s largest facilities in the Middle East.

Since the start of the month, President Donald Trump has repeatedly threatened Iran over a wave of violent protests, which claimed the lives of at least more than 3,000 people.

Last week, Trump reportedly held off from attacking Iran at the request of Arab countries, including Qatar, in addition to Turkey and even Israel. Al Udeid was largely evacuated during the escalation, but operations in the air base have resumed since.

Trump still ordered the deployment of additional U.S. military assets into the Middle East, including an aircraft carrier, fighter jets, and air defenses. A recent report by The Wall Street Journal also revealed that he is now pushing his aides to devise what he calls “decisive” military options against Iran.

The UK has its military presence in the Middle East ahead of the Israeli 12-day war on Iran last June, which saw the U.S. attacking nuclear facilities in the Islamic Republic.

The Royal Air Force had Typhoons deployed in the region at the time. However, it is still unclear if they took part in military operations, specifically in intercepting Iranian suicide drones and cruise missiles launched at Israel.

Following the war, the UK increased pressure on Iran, working with Germany and France to reinstate international sanctions on the Islamic Republic via the “snap back” mechanism from the 2015 nuclear deal abandoned by the U.S. during Trump’s first term.

Typhoon fighter jets are capable of attacking targets deep inside Iran using Franco-British Storm Shadow land-attack cruise missiles.

The U.S. current military buildup suggests that Trump will eventually order an attack on Iran. While the fighter jets deployed to Al Udeid give the UK the ability to join, the country will likely limit its participation to defensive operations. This could, however, change if the attack resulted in a wide regional confrontation.

The Narrative

qatar, is just a militaty base and natural gas well for globalist exploitation. if the uk is adding to the existing us forces they are sitting ducks for iranian missiles. the us loves the “shock and awe” attack first without reason tactics. when is the question.

if iran continues to unalive protestors either publicly for trauma purposes, or privately for “diplomatic” then there will be repercussions. the world doesn’t tolerate nights of long knifes as hitler employed.
