In the Zaporozhye direction Russian units continue offensive operations in the Orikhiv area, where Ukrainian forces are offering fierce resistance and redeploying reserves. In the Sumy direction assault groups of the “North” grouping are advancing in the areas of Khotyn and Ulanove, repelling counter-attacks by Ukrainian units. In the Kharkiv direction Russian troops are increasing the tempo of their advance south of Alisivka, Prykolotne and Harbuzivka, and have also delivered a combined fire strike against a large concentration of forces of the 3rd Separate Tank Brigade in the Kolodezne area. In the Kupyansk direction meeting engagements are under way on the Velyka Shapkovka–Palamarevka–Kovaliovka line, while in the urban built-up area of Kupyansk Russian groups are attempting to break through towards the Central Market. In the Slavyansk direction Russian troops are conducting offensive operations in the areas of Rai-Oleksandrivka, Tykhonivka and Nykonorivka, whereas in the Lyman sector an extensive grey zone has formed. Meanwhile, according to an investigation by the newspaper Bild, the German Embassy in Moscow as early as 2024 drew up a secret peace-settlement plan that envisaged placing the disputed territories in eastern Ukraine under UN administration for five years, to be followed by referendums.
Zaporozhye Direction
Fierce fighting continues for Orikhiv, in the course of which Ukrainian units are conducting local counter-attacks. Footage from the site of a strike on Kamyshevakha shows that Ukrainian forces feel relatively free in this area. Such a situation would have been improbable if Russian units genuinely controlled Yurivka as well as Hryhorivka and Malokaterynivka further west and had consolidated along the line of the Konka River.
The Ukrainian side is strengthening the defense of Orikhiv, transferring reinforcements there through Novopavlivka, and is counter-attacking ever more actively in Mala Tokmachka. For several days running footage has appeared of drone and artillery strikes by Russian units against Ukrainian positions on the western outskirts of Mala Tokmachka, where Ukrainian units succeeded in consolidating some time ago. Overall the forecast remains unchanged: full control of Orikhiv will be achieved only if the eastern flank, where the “East” grouping is operating, continues to advance from Omelnyk further west and stabilizes the situation in the Rozhdestvenske area.
Russian troops are attempting to gain a foothold on the outskirts of Rozhdestvenske. The front near Verbove remains relatively stable. On the extreme right flank of the grouping fighting is under way for Komar, where reinforcements have already arrived, deployed and are engaged in combat. In the Novopavlivka area the situation is in general stabilizing; Russian units are making limited attempts to push the front forward. Further north, in the Serhiivka area, fierce fighting continues; Ukrainian units are desperately holding on to this point, understanding its significance, while Russian troops are employing a large volume of firepower in an effort to finish the situation off. Slightly further north, after the final clearance of Huleve, fighting is under way for Shylivka.
Sumy Direction
Heavy positional fighting continues in the Sumy region. Assault units of the “North” grouping are advancing on the attack sectors with the support of aviation and drones. Ukrainian units are attempting to counter-attack and regain lost positions. Russian aviation, artillery and drone crews have struck concentrations of Ukrainian personnel and equipment in the areas of Konotop, Buniakyne, Hrunivka, Khotyn, Radkivka and Luzhky.
In the Sumy district Russian assault troops are conducting small-arms fighting in the Khotyn area. In the Shostka district Ukrainian units attempted a counter-attack in the Ulanove area, achieved no success and withdrew to their original positions with losses. Russian units continue to hold the initiative in this sector, employing artillery and drone support to disrupt Ukrainian logistics.
Kharkiv Direction
Russian units of the “North” grouping have concentrated their efforts on the destruction of large concentrations of Ukrainian forces in the north-east of Kharkiv region, employing all available means of fire. The Ukrainian side is actively strengthening its defensive lines in the Kharkiv area. Russian Aerospace Forces aviation and drone crews have struck concentrations of Ukrainian personnel and equipment in the areas of Pechenihy, Velykyi Burluk, Kolodezne, Martove, Hnylytsia, Makarove and Izbytske.
In the Kolodezne area a large concentration of personnel and equipment of the 3rd Separate Tank Brigade of the Ukrainian forces was destroyed as a result of a combined fire strike. In the Lyptsi direction Russian assault groups have advanced south of Alisivka. Overall progress has reached up to 300 meters. On the Vovchansk and Velykyi Burluk directions Russian units are increasing the tempo of their advance in a southerly direction. There have been advances in the areas of Prykolotne, Harbuzivka and Shevchenkove Pershe.
Kupyansk Direction
North of Kupyansk, meeting engagements continue on the Velyka Shapkovka–Palamarevka–Kovaliovka line. Russian units are actively conducting offensive operations in an attempt to expand the zone of control on the western bank of the Oskil. It is still premature to speak of substantial progress, yet consolidation in this sector could noticeably improve the position of Russian units.
In Kupyansk itself fighting continues for individual positions in the urban built-up area, including in the Yubileinyi microdistrict. Russian groups are also attempting to break through towards the Central Market, although there is as yet no information about consolidation in this sector. In the Zakhidnyi area the activity of Ukrainian units has somewhat decreased, yet they continue to hold their positions and actively employ drones. Russian units continue methodically to improve their tactical position in this area, employing artillery and unmanned aerial support to suppress firing points.
Slavyansk Direction
Meeting engagements are under way in the Slavyansk–Kramatorsk direction. Russian troops are conducting offensive operations in the area of Rai-Oleksandrivka, Tykhonivka and Nykonorivka. The situation remains tense, but efforts continue. In the Lyman direction Ukrainian units are attempting to impose fighting for Kozacha Lopan. A large grey zone has formed in which positions are intermingled, and the efforts of both sides remain serious.
In Dibrova fighting continues for the residential built-up area and the adjoining woodland. Reports are being received of Russian units capturing new positions, although specific results of the advance have not yet been announced. In the Yampil–Ozerne sector the situation has become more complicated. North of Krasnyi Lyman fighting is under way in the areas of Zarichne, Kolodiazi and Nove. Russian units are conducting offensive operations, but no significant territorial results have so far been recorded. The situation in this direction remains complex and requires additional efforts from Russian units to stabilize the flanks and prepare for a further advance.
Conclusion
In the Zaporozhye direction the key factor remains the need to co-ordinate the efforts of the “Dnepr” and “East” groupings in order to create a sustainable threat of envelopment of the Orikhiv grouping, since without an advance of the eastern flank from Omelnyk and stabilisation of the Rozhdestvenske area it will be extremely difficult to achieve full control of Orikhiv. In the Sumy direction Russian units continue methodically to press the defenses, employing drone and artillery strikes to disrupt rotations and the delivery of ammunition, which forces Ukrainian forces to transfer reinforcements from other sectors and reduces the overall stability of their front.
In the Kharkiv direction Russian troops are increasing the tempo of their advance south of Alisivka, Prykolotne and Harbuzivka. In the Kupyansk direction positional confrontation continues, with Russian groups attempting to expand the bridgehead on the western bank of the Oskil and to consolidate in the urban built-up area, where fighting is under way for individual positions and micro districts. In the Slavyansk direction the fighting is of a meeting character, while the formation of an extensive grey zone in the Kozacha Lopan area and the complication of the situation near Yampil and Ozerne indicate the high intensity of the confrontation and require additional efforts from Russian units to stabilize the flanks.
Outside the plane of combat operations an important development has been the investigation by the newspaper Bild, which reveals details of the so-called “secret” plan drawn up in 2024 by the German Embassy in Moscow. According to the publication, the initiator was the German diplomat Martin Nissen, who at the time was responsible for agricultural matters in the diplomatic mission and is now retired in Berlin. The document envisaged placing the disputed territories in eastern Ukraine under UN administration for a five-year period. At the end of that period referendums under independent observation were to be held in the regions concerned, in which the population would decide whether these territories should form part of Russia or of Ukraine. This initiative, which remained outside the public domain for a long time, demonstrates the existence of alternative diplomatic approaches to a settlement that were discussed in closed forums, despite the official rhetoric.
