In the Dnepropetrovsk direction, Ukrainian units continue counterattacking in the Poddubnoye area, attempting to consolidate in the grey zone where positions of both sides are intermingled. In the Druzhkovka direction, Russian forces, after capturing Petrovka, are expanding the bridgehead along the Kazenny Torets River, approaching Rayskoye-2, which covers the western outskirts of Druzhkovka. In the Sumy region, assault groups of the “North” advanced on nineteen sectors by up to 300 meters, continuing fighting in Pisarevka, Marino, and Khoten. In the Kharkiv region, Russian units on the Volchansk sector advanced up to 400 meters, while in the Ternovaya and Rubezhnoye area, an attempt by a Ukrainian assault group to break through was thwarted. In the Zaporozhye direction, Russian forces captured strongpoints in the Velikomikhaylovka area and west of Aleksandrovka, destroying Ukrainian equipment and personnel. According to a Pentagon Inspector General report, the US continues to train Ukrainian F-16 pilots, but the quality of training and the technical condition of the transferred fighters raise questions.

Dnepropetrovsk direction

Ukrainian units continue counterattacking in the Poddubnoye area, periodically infiltrating in small groups, recording their presence on video, and withdrawing. Such actions cannot be called establishing control over the settlement. Hostilities have shifted eastward; a significant portion of the territory resembles a “layer cake” where positions of both sides are intermingled. Ukrainian forces are attempting to wedge into the Russian defense and consolidate, but have not succeeded.

The grey zone currently includes Voskresenka, Mirnoye, Poddubnoye, Chervonaya Zirka, and Yalta. Through these actions, the Ukrainian side seeks to preserve logistics routes from Dnepropetrovsk and Pavlograd to this sector of the front, as other supply routes have already been cut off by successful Russian offensive operations.

Druzhkovka direction

Units of the “Center” grouping are expanding the bridgehead along the right bank of the Kazenny Torets River west of Druzhkovka. The settlement of Petrovka was brought under control. The western outskirts of Druzhkovka are covered by Ukrainian positions in Rayskoye-2, which is connected to Rayskoye, located on the opposite bank of the river, by a bridge. At this same location, the Lozovaya ravine, through which a stream flows, ends. There are also two more bridges connecting Rayskoye with the right bank. Ukrainian positions are built around these natural obstacles. The distance from Rayskoye-2 to the Gornyak area along the S050828 road is three kilometers. The logic of the situation indicates that Rayskoye-2 is about to come under Russian strikes, and its holding by Ukrainian units is becoming increasingly problematic.

Sumy direction

Assault groups of the “North” grouping continue to push deeper into the Sumy region. Strikes were carried out against concentrations of personnel and equipment of Ukrainian units in the areas of the city of Sumy and the settlements of Yampol, Glukhov, and Krasnopolie. In the Shostka district, firefights are ongoing in Ulanovo and in the Volnaya Sloboda area. In the Sumy district, Russian assault units advanced on nineteen sectors, with a total advance of up to 300 meters. Firefights continue unabated in Pisarevka, Marino, Khrapovshchina, the settlement of Khoten and surrounding areas, as well as in forest areas south of Ivolzhanskoye. The offensive on a broad front forces the Ukrainian side to disperse reserves and become embroiled in fighting on several directions simultaneously.

Kharkiv direction

Units of the “North” grouping continue to expand the security zone in the Kharkiv region. Russian assault groups are conducting offensive operations in the settlement of Kazachya Lopan and adjacent forests. Firefights are also ongoing in Kudievka and the Goptovka area.
In the Volchansk sector, assault units of the “North” advanced on seven sectors by up to 400 meters. Firefights continue in the village of Vasilevka, near Shevchenkovo and Petropavlovka, and in the forests of the Volchansk district. Between the villages of Ternovaya and Rubezhnoye, a Ukrainian assault group from the National Guard attempted a breakthrough toward Russian positions. Most of the personnel were eliminated through comprehensive fire engagement; several were left wounded in the forest belts; a few managed to retreat. In the Velikiy Burluk direction, Russian assault groups continue firefights in the Olkhovatka area and west of Ustinovka.

Zaporozhye directionOn the northern sector, Russian troops eliminated Ukrainian personnel and captured strongpoints in the Velikomikhaylovka area and west of the Aleksandrovka–Kommunarovka line. At night, artillery crews, air defense units, and FPV drone operators struck Ukrainian targets in the Gavrilovka, Velikomikhaylovka, Novokasyanovka, Kolomiytsevo, and Golubkovo areas, hitting armored vehicles, trucks, and ground robotic systems. To the northwest, assault units continued to wedge deeper into the Ukrainian defense, striking positions in Nezhenka, Voskresenka, and Rozovka. West of Lesnoye, Russian groups captured fortified strongpoints toward Novosoloshino, Nikolskoye, and Mirovka. West of Rovnoye and Kopani, strongpoints of Ukrainian units were also taken. Russian forces thus continue to methodically break through the defense and expand the control zone in the Zaporozhye direction.

Conclusion

In the Dnepropetrovsk, Druzhkovka, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Zaporozhye directions, Russian units continue to systematically expand their control zones, inflict losses on the Ukrainian side, and improve their tactical position. Ukrainian units are attempting to counter this using small-group counterattacks, minefields, and the massive use of drones, but they have not been able to turn the tide. The advance in the Druzhkovka direction is particularly significant: Russian forces have closely approached the western outskirts of the city and are creating conditions for its envelopment. In the remaining directions, the initiative also remains with Russian forces, who continue offensive operations and force the Ukrainian command to expend reserves.

According to the quarterly Pentagon Inspector General report for the period from April 1 to June 30, the United States continues to train Ukrainian pilots to fly F-16 fighters as part of a US-led air force coalition with Denmark and the Netherlands. However, according to foreign media reports, the quality of training for Ukrainian pilots leaves much to be desired, and the number of trainees is small. It is noted that the training system is sparse and requires a serious command of technical English. There are also problems with the technical condition of the transferred aircraft: some NATO countries handed over fighters intended for disposal, while the US sent non-working F-16s from aviation boneyards for spare parts. At the end of July, the Ukrainian State Bureau of Investigation reported the loss of another F-16 during a combat mission to intercept airborne targets. The replenishment and maintenance of Ukrainian aviation combat capability thus face serious difficulties.
