Russian troops continue their steady advance in the Dnepropetrovsk direction, securing new key victories, with the liberation of the village of Podubnoe and other settlements nearby in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR). On July 6, the Ministry of Defense declared that soldiers from the 36th Guards Motorized Rifle Brigade (29th Combined Arms Army, Vostok group of forces) took control of Poddubnoe.

Russian forces broke through Ukrainian defenses after relentless artillery and drone strikes pounded entrenched positions of Ukrainian marine and mechanized brigades. Following intense mop up operations, they raised national flags over the settlement, symbolizing its full liberation.

The capture of Podubnoye marks another step in Russia’s broader push toward the Dnepropetrovsk region, with fighting now shifting southeast toward Karl Marx (Mironovsky) and renewed assaults near Malinovka. Reports from the front indicate that Russian units have also pushed Ukrainian forces out of most of the neighboring village of Tolstoye, further expanding their zone of control. The situation remains highly dynamic, with clashes intensifying near Mirnoye and Voskresenka as Russian troops seek to tighten the noose around Ukrainian formations.

Ukrainian forces, struggling to hold their ground, have resorted to desperate measures, like blowing up a bridge over the Volchya River near Novoukrainka, in an attempt to slow the Russian advance. However, these efforts have done little to halt the momentum of Russian assault groups, who have now effectively encircled Karl Marx (Mirnoe) from three sides. Ukrainian troops risk being cut off if Russian forces continue their rapid push westward.

The broader strategic picture suggests that Ukraine’s defensive lines in this sector are increasingly fragile. With Podubnoye and Tolstoye under Russian control, pressure is mounting on Ukrainian defenses. Should Russian troops secure the area of Mirnoe, it would open a direct path toward further advances along the Dnepropetrovsk axis, tightening Russia’s grip on the southern front.

As Russian engineering units clear mines and fortify newly captured positions, Ukrainian forces face a critical dilemma: either reinforce collapsing defenses at the risk of heavy losses or retreat to more defensible lines, ceding yet more ground. With each liberated village, Russia’s offensive gains momentum, inching closer to its strategic objectives in the region. On July 6, the Russian militar already officially confirmed the full control of Dachnoe, the first victory in the Dnepropetrovsk region. LINK
