On December 15, the Russian military expanded its control in the outskirts of the city of Siversk in Donetsk after defeating Kiev forces there.
The Yug [South] Group of Forces broke through Ukrainian defenses to the west of Siversk, securing a large area, more than 9,8 square kilometers in size, from Sviato-Pokrovske to the southwest of the city up to the T-05-13 road to the northwest of it.
Weakened by the defeat in Siversk, Kiev forces withdrew from this area, which included a well-fortified chalk quarry, without putting up any real fight.
Further to the south of Siversk, the Yug Group of Forces is also advancing, specifically to the Vasyukivka. Russian troops have reportedly broken through a defense line there, and may be about to besiege a fairly large group of Ukrainian troops to the southwest of the settlement.
If Kiev forces fail to organize their defenses there, the troops could soon begin advancing north along the E40 highway to the city of Slovyansk.
Meanwhile to the northwest of Siversk, the Yug Group of Forces is reported to be attacking both Zakitne and Dibrova along the T-05-13 which leads to the city of Krasny Liman. The capture of the two settlements, which could happen within a few weeks, would allow Russian troops to focus more on the operations taking place in the southern outskirts of Krasny Liman.
Dibrova, the last settlement before Krasny Liman, is about to be captured by the Yug Group of Forces, which is already operating in the southern part of the city.
Krasny Liman is bigger and more fortified than Siversk. The battle there could go on for months, but that’s if Kiev forces have the resources, namely the manpower, to put on a defense.
Ukraine lost Siversk because it simply could no longer afford to keep fighting there. Kiev forces could flee Krasny Liman for the same reason sooner than expected. This would, of course, allow the Russian military to advance towards Slovyansk to the west.
