Recent advance by the Russian military in the key city of Huliaipole in Zaporozhye has caused a state of panic in the ranks of Ukrainian formations fighting there, Ukrainian media acknowledged on December 19.
The Vostok [East] Group of Forces has already captured much of Huliaipole’s eastern part, along with a sizable area in the southern part of the city. Russian troops also broke through Ukrainian defenses in the north of the city after crossing the Haichur River. Fighting is now mainly taking place in the city center.
Russian President Vladimir Putin even confirmed during his annual end of the year Direct Line event that at least 50% of the city is under the control of the Vostok Group of Forces.

In a shocking report, the pro-Kiev Deep State telegram channel revealed that the rapid advance by the Vostok Group of Forces had a major impact on the morale of Ukrainian formations fighting in the city and around it.
Officers from the 102nd Territorial Defense Brigade have been actively agitating fighters to voluntarily abandon their positions which accelerated recent Russian advance, according to the channel, which also reported a major coordination problem.
The channel said that the coordination problem is so bad that the Ukrainian command does not even know where the formations are deployed near Huliaipole, and had in the past mistook their own troops for Russians and targeted them with artillery.
At the same time, Ukrainian officers are distributing videos from Russian media about the successes of the Vostok Group of Forces among their troops, undermining their morale.
Three assault regiments of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the 1st, 225th, and 33rd, and a battalion tactical group of the 154th Mechanized Brigade were recently sent to Huliaipole to try to hold the line, according to Deep State. However, these reinforcements made no difference.
Recent reports indicate that the Vostok Group of Forces is expanding its control in the northern part of Huliaipole, and targeting any Ukrainian movement in the city or nearby.
Russian troops are also engaged in fierce battles to the north of Huliaipole, mainly along the left bank of the Haichur. Two main settlements there, Pryluky and Zelene, are still under Ukrainian control. However, this will not likely last for long. Pryluky is already under attack.
The latest reports coming out from Ukrainian media are not surprising at all. Ukrainian defenses between the rivers of Yanchur and Haichur collapsed within a few weeks. This made the fact that Kiev forces are dealing with serious issues, from a shortage in manpower, to ill coordination, and low morale, clear to everyone.
Kiev is, of course, doing nothing to address any of these problems. It just keeps sending reinforcements hoping to stabilize the situation. In reality, it is just degrading the combat capabilities of its forces and weakening other fronts.
