The US-led coalition has sent 200 trucks loaded with weapons and ammunition to the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in eastern Syria, the TRT TV reported on July 10. According to the Turkish news TV channel, the trucks entered Syria through Simalka crossing on the border between Syria and Iraq.

TRT quoted a source in the SDF as saying that the new shipment of weapons and ammunition will support the ongoing military operation against the remaining fighters of ISIS in the southern al-Hasakah countryside.

Last month, more than 250 truck carrying ammunition and western-made armored vehicles were supplied to the SDF. Most of these US-supplied weapons were used in the attack on ISIS in the area of Dashisha near the Syrian Iraqi-border.

Turkey’s Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said last year that U.S. President Donald Trump told his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan that the U.S. will not supply anymore weapons to the SDF.

However, the ongoing cooperation between the U.S. and the SDF proves that Trump’s promise to Erdogan was nothing more than empty words. According to TRT, the U.S. shipped more than 5,000 trucks loaded with weapons to the Kurdish-dominated force since 2011.

This issue became a source of great concern for the Turkish government, which fears that many of these weapons will soon find their way to the hands of the Kurdistan Worker’s Party (PKK) in Syria, Iraq and even inside Turkey.
