Yemen’s Houthis (Ansar Allah) announced on November 2 that they had disrupted air traffic at King Fahd International Airport in the city of Dammam in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province through a drone attack carried out in two stages over the preceding 48 hours.
In a statement, military spokesman Brig. Gen. Yahya Saree said the operation had successfully achieved its objective and disrupted air navigation at the airport.
The spokesman also announced two separate operations against military targets in Jizan. He said a drone struck an early-warning radar installation in the province, scoring a direct hit. In the other operation, the Houthis targeted a military transport plane at Jizan airport, with Saree saying it had achieved its objective.
Reports of disruption at Dammam airport had circulated before the announcement. On October 31, flight operations were reportedly suspended, leaving several inbound flights unable to land. Further reports on November 2 said no flights had landed since early morning. Neither the airport nor Saudi aviation authorities had officially confirmed a shutdown.
There have also been several reports of interceptions. On November 1, the Saudi-led coalition said its air defenses had intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile and a drone launched toward the southern region.
The very next day, the coalition announced another interception, saying it had destroyed a ballistic missile launched toward southern Saudi Arabia.
Civil Defense had issued early-warning alerts in Khamis Mushait, Abha, Taif and Najran, followed by additional alerts in Jizan and Najran. Authorities later announced that the threats had passed.
Explosions were also reported in several locations. On November 1, explosions were heard in Jizan, while social media channels reported a security alert in the city that was subsequently lifted. The next day, several regional outlets reported explosions in Khamis Mushait, while a separate channel reported blasts in Taif.
Fire reports also emerged during the period. Footage posted online showed a large fire at an industrial facility in Dammam, which was attributed to a Houthi attack.
Separately, Saudi Civil Defense reported extinguishing fires at two air-conditioning maintenance and storage sites in Dammam, a building under construction in Riyadh and commercial shops in Najran. No injuries were reported, and the fire in Najran was attributed to an electrical short circuit.
The latest announcement comes amid an increase in Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia in recent weeks, with the group reporting operations against airports, military installations and strategic infrastructure. The kingdom’s defenses are facing unprecedented pressure.
