Three people were injured following a fresh wave of Iranian strikes on the United Arab Emirates, the Emirate ministry of Defense announced on May 8.

Air defense systems engaged two ballistic missiles and three drones launched by Iran, the ministry said in a statement, without revealing the location of the attacks or giving any further details about those wounded.

Authorities issued an alert in the early morning, saying that the Gulf country was responding to threats. The public were urged to remain in a safe location and wait for updates from official channels.

Videos that emerged later online showed heavy smoke rising from the vicinity of Dubai International Airport. The videos are yet to be verified, however.

Iran resumed its attacks on the UAE on May 4 after a near month-long halt to hostilities, following a conditional ceasefire that came into effect on April 8. The country strongly condemned the renewed Iranian attacks, saying they represented a “dangerous escalation” and that the country reserved the right to respond.

From its side, the Islamic Republic accused the UAE of allowing U.S. and Israeli forces to operate from its territory, urging Emirati authorities not to become a base for what he described as hostile powers.

Overnight, Iran said that the U.S. violated the ceasefire by targeting two ships at the Strait of Hormuz and attacking civilian areas.

The U.S. strikes hit “an Iranian oil tanker traveling from Iran’s coastal waters near Jask toward the Strait of Hormuz, as well as another vessel entering the Strait of Hormuz near the Emirati port of Fujairah,” a spokesperson for the Islamic Republic Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters said in a statement carried by state media.

The spokesman added that other strikes targeted “civilian areas along the coasts of Bandar Khamir, Sirik, and Qeshm Island,” noting that the U.S. carried out the strikes “in cooperation with some regional countries.”

The latest attack on the UAE was likely a response to the U.S. strikes. It’s worth noting that Iran targeted earlier three warships of the U.S. Navy close to Strait of Hormuz.
