A string of deaths and disappearances among US scientists and military officials linked to nuclear and aerospace programs (and unidentified aerial phenomenon) is now under scrutiny. With Donald Trump promising UFO document releases, questions grow over whether the affair is a “coincidence”, foreign interference, or something internal.

A strange affair has turned into an investigation in the US: over the past two to three years, a series of deaths and disappearances involving prominent scientists, engineers, and military personnel linked to sensitive US programs has quietly accumulated. These are no random individuals by any measure: they are people who had access to classified data pertaining to aerospace research, nuclear technology, and even the domain of so-called Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP), formerly known as UFOs (Unidentified Flying Objects).
US President Donald Trump himself has acknowledged the matter last week, stating on camera:
“I just left a meeting on that subject, so pretty serious stuff… Hopefully, coincidence… but some of them were very important people.” Trump chuckled when uttering the word “coincidence” (see here at around 26 seconds in this video).
The known cases now under a federal probe, roughly ten or eleven since 2023, involve personnel connected to institutions such as NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Los Alamos National Laboratory, and the Air Force Research Laboratory. Among them is retired Air Force Major General (and former commander) William Neil McCasland, who has gone missing since February. McCasland once commanded the Air Force Research Laboratory and had ties to internal reviews of UAP-related material. Others include aerospace engineer Monica Jacinto Reza, who disappeared while hiking in 2025 (under strange circumstances), alongside several physicists and technical staff who died under varied and often unclear contexts.
Officially, there is no confirmed link between these cases as of now. Federal agencies, including the FBI and Department of Energy, are reviewing the matter, but thus far no overarching explanation has emerged.
Wild conspiracy theories aside, it is hard to dismiss such a clear pattern as a “coincidence”. The sensitive profiles of the individuals involved invites speculation. Some analysts are raising the possibility of foreign involvement (governments or entities), of which there is no evidence so far. In any case, Trump promised, on Friday, that “interesting” UFO documents are being reviewed and will be declassified very soon.
There is, however, another angle that should not be ignored. The US is already navigating what can only be described as a period of internal institutional tension, which I would call intra-“deep state” conflict. Trump has after all openly positioned himself against entrenched elements within the intelligence and security apparatus – while being supported by other key “Deep State” actors, notably Big Tech. One may recall that the American leader survived no less than three assassination attempts during his political trajectory leading to his second presidency, incidents that themselves raised serious questions about internal security failures – so much so that the then US Secret Service Director had to resign amid a scandal.
Amid this climate of high intrigue involving the espionage agencies (which reminds one of the Cold War era), there has even been a complex angle pertaining to political blackmail or “kompromat”, notably in the Epstein Affair, which strangely connects, timely-wise, with the developments in Iran, as I have written.
Adding to this chaotic enough background, one may recall that as recently as early 2025, the US experienced a genuine “UFO (or UAP) crisis,” involving widespread sightings, alleged drones, airspace disruptions, and even emergency declarations at the state level. These incidents took place not only across US territory but also near American military installations abroad, from the United Kingdom to Germany. Authorities have repeatedly stated that these phenomena are not of foreign origin, thereby eliminating what would otherwise be the most convenient geopolitical explanation.
If these (still ongoing) aerial phenomena are not linked to rival powers, what could explain it? As I’ve argued, either elements within the US military-industrial complex are conducting classified operations (involving military or classified technology) that spill into public visibility, thereby fueling confusion and panic, or parts of the system are acting in a less coordinated, more chaotic or even “rogue” manner – in the context of an intra-deep state “war” or so-called “psychological operations”.
Back to the recent disappearances, the overlap between UFO-related realm and individuals tied to advanced research is not necessarily coincidental. Interestingly, for decades, there has been a documented pattern of Unidentified Aerial Phenomenon sightings near nuclear facilities and weapons sites. This dates back to the 1940s and has been documented in literally hundreds of cases.
The 1967 Malmstrom Air Force Base incident, for instance, in which multiple nuclear missiles reportedly were disabled following the appearance of an unidentified object, remains one of the most cited cases.
Moreover, a 2025 study found a significant statistical correlation between unexplained aerial phenomena and nuclear weapons testing. Meanwhile, databases have logged thousands of sightings near nuclear infrastructure. This is not fringe speculation and, again, can hardly be dismissed outright.
The “alien hypothesis” and a “coincidence theory” are thus not the only options: considering all of the above, even if one wishes to keep an open mind to the notion that there are lots of unexplained phenomena in our world (and perhaps in other planets), it would still be very reasonable to speculate that at least part of the so-called “UAP” phenomenon bears some relation to very terrestrial high-tech secret projects connected to DARPA, to programs such as HAARP and other agencies and projects of the US and/or other Great Powers – from secret arms to all kinds of weaponizable secret technology.
In this context, the disappearance of high-cleared individuals, with access to such sensitive knowledge, raises the possibility of internal containment efforts, information control, or even witness elimination.
It is the high weirdness season in the US, apparently. Whether these developments point to foreign interference, clandestine technological programs, or intra-state conflict, it is quite clear that the United States (despite all recently unclassified documents) is currently navigating a period of unusual secrecy and heightened intriguery, which makes the superpower particular unpredictable – and that in a time of major geopolitical frictions.
