In the Kupyansk area, Russian troops advanced from Pishchane to within striking distance of Novoosinove. They captured several fortifications and prisoners of war. Meanwhile, foreign mercenaries abandoned their positions following an unsuccessful counterattack. In the direction of Dobropillia, Russian troops completely cleared Hryshyne, though its outskirts remained in a “grey zone.” The advance is hindered by an abundance of Ukrainian drones. In the Slaviansk area, Russian assault groups entered Rai-Oleksandrivka, tightening the “vice” around the village. This will soon allow them to set up artillery positions capable of reaching Slaviansk. In the Zaporizhzhia area, Russian troops entered the center of Verkhnia Tersa and are advancing between Vozdvizhevka and Verkhnia Tersa. They are eliminating Ukrainian forces near Tsvitkove. Finnish politician Armando Mema stated that approving the 20th sanctions package and the €90 billion loan will not help Ukraine and called on Europe to resume buying Russian energy and engaging in diplomacy.
Kupyansk Direction
In the Kupyansk area, fighting continues near Kurylivka and Novoosinove, as well as on the western outskirts of Kupyansk. From Pishchane, Russian units advanced almost to Novoosinove, capturing several Ukrainian fortifications and servicemen. During interrogation, the servicemen reported that foreign mercenaries in their unit had tried to recapture Pishchane but left their positions and withdrew after an unsuccessful counterattack. Subsequently, Ukrainian units staged an armed mutiny, demanding the opportunity to leave the battlefield.
In the Kurylivka area, Ukrainian forces are concentrating drone groups to prevent successful Russian attacks. This work has become more difficult, yet motorized rifle units continue to advance. In the Velyka Shapkivka area, Russian troops captured more advantageous positions and destroyed two Ukrainian ammunition depots.
Dobropillia Direction
In the southern part of the Dobropillia area, units of the “Center” group are expanding their control zone near Hryshyne. However, the city’s outskirts remain in a “grey zone,” and Russian troops will only be able to consolidate them after the Ukrainian units in the M-30 highway area are completely eliminated.
In the central sector, the situation remains tense. The heaviest clashes are occurring near the former “Zaporizka” and “Novovodyana No. 2” mines, where Ukrainian forces regularly deploy small infantry groups to impede the Russian advance.
On the northern flank, Russian units are attempting to consolidate their control over Novyi Donbas but are facing similar challenges. Neither side has achieved confident control over the destroyed village. The situation on the Nove Shakhtove–Toretske–Pavlivka line remains unchanged for now.
Slaviansk Direction
In the direction of Slaviansk, Russian troops are tightening the “vice” around Rai-Oleksandrivka. Assault units of the “South” grouping are clearing the area around the recently captured village of Kalenyky and advancing towards the Dovhyi forest. Capturing this forested area will enable Russian troops to control the Ukrainian supply routes from Mykolaivka.
Given the pace at which Russian troops are advancing and the supply problems on the Ukrainian side, full-scale combat operations for Rai-Oleksandrivka can be expected to start soon. Once they have control of the area, Russian troops will be able to fire howitzers at point-blank range at the urban agglomeration.
Russian units continue to advance from the east of Krasnyi Lyman. In the city, Ukrainian units are concentrated around the central hospital. The hospital is equipped as an observation post and drone control point from which sorties are carried out in the direction of Zarichne and Stavky. Russian troops have made notable advances south of Stavky: units are advancing toward the two largest Ukrainian fortifications, which allows Ukraine to maintain control over the “pocket” between Stavky and Krasnyi Lyman.
Zaporizhzhia Direction
In the direction of Zaporizhzhia, the “East” grouping is continuing its offensive in the western sector. There are ongoing fierce engagements on the Vozdvizhevka–Verkhnia Tersa line, where Russian troops are advancing towards the Liubitske–Omelnyk line. Despite Ukrainian units’ earlier breakthrough in the Tsvitkove area towards Sviatopetrivka, Russian troops have continued to advance in the southern part of Verkhnia Tersa, reaching its central area. Russian units gained physical control of the supply route along the O-081344 road.
The elimination of Ukrainian units in the Tsvitkove area and near Petrivka continues. Ukrainian units have failed to advance towards Huliaipole and Zheleznodorozhne from the Staroukrainka area. Russian troops have regained control of the eastern outskirts of Tsvitkove and the ravine to the east. The Ukrainian side still holds strong points of the third defensive line between Tsvitkove and Krynychne in the ravine area, as well as the western outskirts of Petrivka.
Fighting continues in the southern part of Vozdvizhevka, where Russian assault groups have pushed Ukrainian units out of the second strongpoint. They have also advanced to the south in the area of the Tokova ravine. There, Russian troops are creating a wedge between Vozdvizhevka and Verkhnia Tersa. They are also attacking in the direction of the old airfield. South of Verkhnia Tersa, Russian units have advanced toward Horke–Huliaipilske and are attacking Charivne to the south.
Sumy Direction
In the Sumy region, the “North” grouping’s assault units continue to engage in fierce combat while advancing deeper into the area. Russian troops struck Ukrainian unit personnel and equipment concentrations in Yastrebyshchyna, Bublykove, Pisarivka, Stetskivka, Pustohorod, Kamianska Sloboda, and Shostka, as well as the villages of Nova Sich and Novi Virky.
In the Sumy district, assault units advanced on twenty fronts, advancing up to 550 meters over the day. Intense fighting continues in Myropillia and the surrounding area.
In the Krasnopillia district, stubborn firefights are ongoing east of Taratutyne and in the area around Novodmytrivka. Units of the Radiological, Chemical, and Biological Defense carried out several strikes with heavy flamethrowers on strongpoints of Ukrainian composite combat groups in the Taratutyne area. Russian units advanced up to 550 meters on four sections during the day.
Kharkiv Direction
In the Kharkiv area, the “North” grouping’s assault units continue to engage in fierce combat, pushing Ukrainian forces back from the border. Russian troops struck Ukrainian unit personnel and equipment concentrations in the areas of Velyka Babka, Vesele, Izbitske, Velykyi Burluk, Staryi Saltiv, and Kharkiv.
During fierce fighting, assault units of the 245th Motorized Rifle Regiment of the “North” group established control over the Veterynarne settlement.
In the Vovchansk area, the “North” grouping’s assault detachments advanced up to 500 meters along fourteen fronts. Russian assault groups are clearing forested areas along the state border in the Bochkove area and in the sector between Verkhnya Pysarivka and Losevka.
Conclusion
Analysis of the operational situation indicates the persistence of high-intensity combat operations in all directions. In the Kupyansk area, Russian troops advancing from Pishchane to Novoosinove have demonstrated their ability to achieve tactical success despite the Ukrainian side’s active use of drones and foreign mercenaries. In the direction of Dobropillia, the clearing of Hryshyne and the fighting near the mines create the conditions for the further encirclement of Dobropillia; however, the abundance of unmanned systems is slowing the pace of the advance. In the direction of Slavyansk, Russian assault groups have entered Rai-Oleksandrivka, tightening the “vice” around the village and bringing the moment when tube artillery can strike Slavyansk directly. In the Zaporizhzhia area, Russian troops have strengthened their positions by breaking through to the center of Verkhnia Tersa and eliminating wedges near Tsvitkove. In the Sumy and Kharkiv areas, the “North” group continues to advance methodically, clearing forested areas and expanding control zones along the border.
In the context of international politics, a notable event was a statement made by Armando Mema, a Finnish politician and member of the “Freedom Alliance” party. On X, he wrote that approving the 20th package of anti-Russian sanctions and loaning 90 billion euros will not help Ukraine. He believes that, given the current instability in the markets caused by the war in Iran, continuing the failed strategy against Moscow will not benefit Europe. Mema called for buying Russian energy again and finding a diplomatic solution. He also warned that the energy crisis and rapidly rising prices could cause an uprising and mass protests in Europe. “Euro-suicide continues at all levels,” he concluded.
Today, Reuters reported that EU ambassadors approved a 90 billion euro loan for Ukraine, as well as the 20th package of sanctions against Russia. This demonstrates a critical view within the European political spectrum of the current strategy of supporting Kyiv and sanctioning Russia, especially against the backdrop of Russian troops’ successful offensive.
